About

King David Hotel Jerusalem

King David Hotel Jerusalem holds a singular place in the city's story — a landmark that has hosted statesmen and celebrities since the 1930s. The 5-star property sits on King David Street, a 6-minute walk from Mishkenot Sha'ananim, with rooms overlooking the garden. Public spaces carry the elegance of another era, and the lobby floor is signed by famous guests.

Rooms are generous in size, a point regular visitors appreciate, and many offer views toward the Old City or the YMCA tower. The hotel is self-contained: a restaurant, terrace dining, a spa and wellness centre, a fitness centre, a tennis court, and both seasonal and heated swimming pools are on site. Families are catered for with a kids club and babysitting services, and electric vehicle charging is available.

In brief

What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

4 reasons to book
  • Historic grandeur, still intact — Built in the 1930s and a witness to key moments in the city's modern history, the hotel carries a sense of occasion that guests repeatedly note. Signed lobby floors and a documentary channel on the in-room TV tell that story.
  • Spacious, renovated rooms — Rooms are notably large for a newer hotel, and recent renovations have refreshed many of them. A writing desk, sitting area, and some terraces add to the comfort.
  • Breakfast that earns praise — Guests describe the breakfast buffet in glowing terms — one calls it the best they've had anywhere. The Friday morning spread is singled out as special.
  • Strong service from a stable team — Staff receive consistent compliments for attentiveness and friendliness, with specific thanks for helpful gestures and for making guests feel looked after.

Worth weighing

3 to weigh
  • A premium price that raises expectations — The King David is the most expensive hotel in Jerusalem, and some guests feel it doesn't always deliver the 'outstanding' experience that reputation and price point suggest. If you're paying top dollar, temper expectations accordingly.
  • Service can be uneven in the restaurant — While front-of-house staff are often praised, the terrace restaurant has drawn criticism for inattentive service and some waiters' limited English.
  • Breakfast is indoors, not on the terrace — Unlike some nearby hotels, breakfast is served inside — a minor disappointment for guests who hoped to dine with a view. The pool area, however, remains a favourite spot.

“It's the King David — the best hotel in Jerusalem, where everyone stays. Celebrities have been coming since the 1930s, from Stephen Hawking to Metallica. The rooms are big, and even those that don't face the Old Town have a great view of the YMCA tower. The swimming pool is lovely, and the breakfast is absolutely gorgeous — the best I've had anywhere in the world.”

“The location is marvellous, and the restaurant and all other public spaces are excellent. We can only recommend it — we thoroughly enjoyed this hotel.”

“The place is nice and has everything I need, like Wi-Fi, a poolside snack bar, and 24-hour reception. I still remember how the staff helped me locate my lost ID card on my first stay. Special thanks to Karawi for his really good service!”

“Had a really lovely stay for our last two nights of the trip and will choose the place for future trips. The newly renovated room was large, and the writing desk, sitting area, and terrace were appreciated. The property's location was amazing and absolutely perfect, and the smaller cafe was a bonus.”

“Location, atmosphere, and the breakfast on Friday morning — which was very different from other days.”

“The King David Hotel Jerusalem is beautifully decorated with elegant interiors and excellent views of the Old City. The accessibility features are also good.”
